Internal Family Systems Therapy

Helping you discover ways to manage what life throws at you and find your inner balance.

Sometimes we may feel at a loss as to where our reactions, urges, or thoughts are coming from, much less how we could possibly shift or balance them.

Internal Family Systems Therapy offers a framework through which to come to know all parts of ourselves more intimately and completely, in a movement towards greater balance, healing, compassion and confidence.

Most people who start Internal Family Systems Therapy feel trapped going round in circles, repeating painful emotions and patterns. Perhaps you can relate; maybe you feel like you want to escape your life, or part of you wants to take action while another part of you seems to get in the way. You may feel like your life is out of control.

Internal Family Systems Therapy can help you get your life back.

It’s possible to feel better. Imagine a life where you could…

  • Get to the root problems and solve them instead of using band-aids.

  • Improve your relationship with yourself and those you choose to share yourself with.

  • Have improved attitude, mood, and productivity.

  • Create a more meaningful life based on who you are and what you desire.

Step back, find balance, and heal.

You will get the skills to discover the root of your problems and find your way through difficult feelings and situations. I’ve helped people who feel scattered, worried, unable to take action, or out of control, to build a foundation of clarity, stability, security, confidence, peace and joy.

My name is Mandie Maurer and I am an Internal Family Systems Therapy practitioner who is here to help.

How Internal Family Systems Therapy works

With Internal Family Systems (IFS) Therapy, we will be directing our curiosity towards the times that you feel strong emotional reactions or urges to eat, self-harm, etc. These are typically your family of "protective parts". We'll then turn towards your feelings of sadness, numbness, shame; these are typically your family of "exiled" or "wounded" parts. IFS therapy is the process of getting to know each of your unique parts more intimately, compassionately and openly, which in turn brings a much stronger awareness to our inner world, a clarity, eventually a self-compassion, and then finally a greater peace and ease in ourselves and with our world.

Internal Family Systems Therapy consists of 50-minute, one-on-one sessions that help you work through your concerns. In addition to listening, I will guide you towards building stronger relationships with the different parts of your Internal Family System, I play an active role. Here’s how it will work step-by-step:

  1. First, I provide a safe, accepting space so that you will feel comfortable sharing your struggles with me.

  2. Through hearing your story, I will start to get a picture of what your most prominent parts are, including "managers", "firefighters", and "exiles".

  3. We will also work to discover your goals for therapy and in life.

  4. Keeping your unique goals in mind, we’ll identify which parts to build stronger relationships with in order to help you reach these goals.

  5. Over the course of our sessions, you will start making progress towards the life you desire.

  6. We will have routine check-ins regarding your progress along the course of our work together.

Research shows that Internal Family Systems Therapy can positively change your thinking, beliefs, emotions, and behaviors.
